"Tokaido Kanaya no Fuji” (Fuji Seen from Kanaya on the Tokaido) from Katsushika Hokusai's "Fugaku Sanjurokkei" (Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji).
Kanaya-juku, located in present-day Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture, was an inn on the Tokaido Highway and a crossing point for the Oigawa River. It depicts the flow of the Oigawa River, which was one of the most difficult sections of the Tokaido Highway during the Edo period (1603-1867) because of the lack of bridges, and a man-passenger trying his best to carry a traveler through the river.
