"Soshu Nakahara” (Nakahara in Sagami Province) from Katsushika Hokusai's "Fugaku Sanjurokkei" (Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji).
Nakahara was located in present-day Nakahara, Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture. In the Edo period (1603-1867), the “Oyama Mode (Oyama Pilgrimage)”, a pilgrimage to Mt. Oyama, which was a sacred place of syncretism between Shintoism and Buddhism, was popular among the common people. This painting depicts Mt. Fuji and Mt. Daisen, as well as ascetic practitioners and peddlers on their way to Mt. Oyama.
